Trying on the Hackamore

(In the last post I was so focused on getting a name for the Draft Cross that I totally forgot to introduce any riders or other horses than my heartbeat horse. Which is a big mistake as I LOVE to tell stories and talk about my horses, so here we go!)

It was a pretty grey day when Hera got into the stables to collect her heartbeat Lucky (his full name is Kilborn's Lucky Charms though, thanks for helping me!). The Draft Cross wasn't hard to catch at the pasture, he never is, and was lead to the stable. The grey sky above started to break in cracks, as Hera whispered to Lucky: "Hey heartbeat. We are gonna try something new today, k?"

She stroked the bridge of his nose, as he nuzzled her with his muzzle and whinnied just as thunder was rumbling above them. That made Hera smile, but then frown. She didn't wanna ride in rainy weather at all, as it always became to damn cold! But she tried to act like she didn't care, while brushing the soft, thick fur of the gelding.

Then she went to the tackroom to find something. A 'something' that she had bought just yesterday at the local tack shop called 'Tack Me Inspired'. When she came out, Lucky lifted his head to look at her and the bridle she presented to him. It was a bitless bridle called a hackamore. She had bought it, because she had noticed with what passion the gelding hated all bits.

She pat his head, and let him snift the bridle. And he really did snift it, even tried to taste it, but Hera stopped him with a laugh: "Boy! You can't eat that!"

She then gently put on the bridle, which made Lucky smack his lips and closing his eyes expecting the cold bit. Then he shook his head and looked at her in surprise. He liked it! She was sure of it. Now she just had to figure out, if he could be ridden with it. Out they got, and there was, to Hera's surprise and happiness, no more rain. Only grey skies and that was okay.

When she had mounted him, she slowly leaned forward to give him a neck-hug. He just looked back at her, and smacked his lips again.

"Hey!" Someone yelled at her, and something move on her left side.

She turend around and looked into the eyes of her boyfriend. She hadn't even noticed he was there. Why had he been riding around at the arena in the rain? Guess he was just strange.

He trotted towards her on Ivory, his Saddlebred stallion, and waved at her with a grin.

"Hey Liam." She answered him and smiled, while petting Lucky's neck.

"Hi babe." He was grinning at her, then turned the tall, dainty stallion to the left and started moving to sideways on him. Then he pat the stallion and smiled at her.

"What's that?" Hera asked with her head tilt to the side.

"I am trying to teach him how to move sideways and doing leg yelding." He started while stopping Ivory just in front of her. "But he seems to be more willing to move his butt than his front, so that's kind of a new challenge." He then explained.

"How so?" She asked, head tilting to the other side.

"Most horses has taken a liking to move the front the most, but this guy moves his butt first in a leg yelding. God knows why." He rolls his eyes and brushes his hand over Ivory's coat, before burying his finger in the not-so-thick fur.

"Oh." She just said, while starting to move Lucky around.
